Sidelined, No. 2
I’m waiting for this wave to subside
Sputtering, stumbling forward, arms and legs stretched outward, I’m awkward but my eyes are on the prize
My will carries me through this winter chill, with the whisper of spring on my frigid lips, my tongue sings and my lungs fill
My sick bones rattle and rally and my angry skin is my biggest enemy, but my heart is my biggest fan
Yes, my heart is my biggest fan
Big, beautiful, and strong it beats for only me, as only it can
And my body, with its various aching pieces, yearns for warmer spaces in far-off places with exotic names and different faces
Just to get away from this nameless pain for a day
But here I sit as winter whips through a draft in the window, passively planning my big escape while in limbo
Ice pack on my head
